From the time I left the UK and my legal career behind, I have travelled far and wide and lived in many places in Andalucia, Spain, turning my wanderings into a way of living.
I love to wander, to roam at will. The open road is mine, my friends. To wander is to adventure yet wandering has become an accelerated form of personal growth because I meet myself a thousand times on the road.
One of the reasons I love to travel is the number of people that I meet along the way. From the young backpacker taking their first steps into the world or the new-age family trying to live a different life to the ageing hippy who has seen it all yet continues on, the sheer variety of people I meet from different cultures and cities, different ages and background is mind-boggling. And in each one, I see myself.
I see myself mirrored in the people I meet where I have an instant connection. The ones where my soul says, “aah, old friend, I know you”.
I see myself in the people I meet who I don´t gel with at all and even the ones that I dislike.
I see myself reflected in all of them; the good, the bad and the ugly and, from this reflection, I learn more about myself. I see my positives and my negatives. I see when I have to be kinder and more loving to myself. Where I have to drop judgements. When I need to open my mind. I see where I need to work on my boundaries but, most of all, I see when I´m going to make a lifelong friend.
I meet myself a thousand times on the road and I´m grateful to each person I see myself in, for showing me who I am and who I want to be. What I need to improve or what I need to let go off. Only through meeting such a great number of people in a short period of time, can I work on me so intensely.
